Hey gang,
Back again. Great to see the MCN Forum is once again a pleasant place to hang out.
A few issues back, MCN ran a product review on DuPont Teflon Multi Purpose lube in the context of chain lube. Living a few miles off-road, maintaining the chain on my V-Strom was a constant chore using oil-based lubes. I dropped a few bucks on a couple of 11 ounce aerosol cans of the stuff, and....what a revelation. No more muddy/oily mess on my Strom chain! I clean and lube the chain now at about half the interval as before (600 vs 300 miles), and now it's just coated with light road dust, not a gooey mess.
Highly recommended, folks, and thanks MCN for the tip!

Hey Bruce nice to see you around here again. Thanks for the chain lube tip. I may be needing that soon if I'm lucky.

In what sort of shop does one find this stuff? I didn't spend a lot of time looking, but I haven't seen it in WalMart or any of the local auto parts stores. Maybe I didn't look in the right place, or perhaps I didn't know it when I saw it. I'd like to try it on my KLR and my Twinstar.

Charon, do a Google search on "Dupont Teflon Multi Purpose Lube." There are several on-line stores that sell the stuff. That's where I found mine.

I'll have to check into that. I've considered going to a spray grease rather than chain lube. My thoughts have been to clean the chain thoroughly then apply the grease and wipe off what I can. After getting the PJ1 off of it, it seems like a regular spray and wipe should keep the chain clean by itself and keep enough of a coating on it to keep a modern o-ring chain happy.

Hey Folks re: the Teflon Chain Lube. It is in stock at all Lowe's home stores. I,too,
am sold on the stuff - I use it on my Multistrada S and get fantastic results! I was pleased enough to send the tip to our
friends across the pond at Two Wheels Only
(www.two.tv) One thing though - apply two coats and let them both dry when you first make the switch. You'll want the chain
thoroughly saturated. I used WD40 to get the original grease/goo off.

Idaho Bruce: I did the search as you suggested. The first hit came up Ace Hardware. So I went there, and Behold! It was on the shelf at less than the manufacturer's suggested price. But I noticed that the can says something about being highly flammable, so I thought I might wait until the weather gets a little nicer and lets me apply it outside, instead of in the closed garage. Thanks.
