Hi, just joined the board and was hoping someone had advise on a good leather boot conditioner.  I purchased a pair of Sidi On-Road Gore Tec boots that were highly recommended by a good friend of mind.  Any advise for a good "break-in" procedure would be appreciated!!!

Sno-Seal   been around forever for good reason.  Used on a pair of heavy Vasque hikers for 22 years before rest of boot disintegrated.  Red Wing Dressing (I am told) is actually Sno Seal and polish together.

I think MCN did a comparison a while back.  LEXOL was one of the favorites if I remember correctly.

Aerostich sells Nik-Wax, a very viscous compound that when rubbed into leather, seals it and allows polish to be applied afterwards.  I've used both with good results.

I would use Neat's Foot oil.  This is what I used to soften my RedWing riding boots. It's also what I used back in my Army days, as well as on my baseball mitt as a kid.  The Neat's Foot oil makes the leather very supple and pretty soon your boots will feel like a calfskin glove. You will need to drench the boot with it.  Later you can apply Mink Oil for waterproofing.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their info on the leather conditioner, I rushed over to my nearest OSH Hardware and bought the LEXOL kit.  I love the product and have used it on all my leather gear (new and old).  Sorry it took a while to thank you all, but I have been doing alot of riding on my days off.  I have passed on the word to a few of my friends about the product including my brother (and riding partner) and they are quite happy to say the least.

Thanks.

While we are on the topic has anyone ever used Mink oil?  I've used it for years and had pretty good results but not sure if thats really a good idea or not.

I tried it once, but the mink objected when I squeezed him too hard.

Hi All,

First post here - nice site. Thought I would chime in and say hi. Also just found a great leather conditioner - Leathermate. Google it I think it is sold out of Texas.
It's an Italian product and we know they are experts in leather!
I was at Americade in Lake George this summer and got coralled by a guy giving shoe shines with the stuff.
Had a beat up pair of Redwing workboots on at the time. He put the stuff on and shined them up in a hurry. Looked good - asked how much and he said $25 for a jar. I thought it was too pricey for my blood so I dropped a couple bucks in the can and said thanks.
What got me was the next day when the boots were softer, shiny and looked great! Then I couldn't remember the name of the stuff!
Figured it out by asking the guys on the Americade forum and ordered it up. Highly recommended.
By the way, reason I went to Americade was to check out the Airhawk seat cushion - another awesome product. I ride my '78 Yamaha XS750 Special I bought new (yup 30 yrs ago!). I put a custom seat on it when I bought it which is hard as a rock now and monkey butt happens in less than an hour. Dropped the airhawk on it and I can ride all day - nice!
Well, hope i didn't sound like a salesman my first time here but I am real happy with both of these purchases. So much junk out there today, thought it might help somebody.
Ride safe!
