When MC people talk of "dropping a bike", are they talking about literally "dropping" it, as in just inadvertently letting it "fall"?  (I've heard of people just forgetting to put the side stand down).  Or does "dropping" a bike mean actually getting into a mishap and going down with the bike while moving along the road?  It's hard for me to imagine the sensation of actually going down on a 700 lb Dyna!  I've heard it before that the probability of "dropping your bike" is pretty high in your first couple of years experience.  I hope that doesn't mean "going down with the bike while in motion on the road in traffic".  While I realize that THAT is a very real POSSIBILITY, I hope it's not a *PROBABILITY* if one uses good judgment & is careful.  I've heard it said, "There are those who HAVE, and those who WILL," as if someone couldn't ensure, with proper care, that they never take a fall.  Am I not realistic in intending to never go to the ground with my bike?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but "dropping a bike" can mean anything from forgetting to put the stand down to a major crash. All it takes is stopping and putting your foot down on an unexpected slippery spot (oil, sand, gravel) to lose control of the machine and drop it on the road. Maneuvering in a parking lot with a cold engine, and having that engine stall instead of respond can do it. At the other extreme would be serious crashes, with or without involvement of other vehicles. With luck the parking lot get-off will cost a mirror, maybe turn signals, scratched paint or chrome, some dents. With bad luck you can get a leg or foot pinned under there, with or without injury to you. On a crash at almost any speed over walking pace you and the motorcycle will part company and go your separate ways. Damage is likely in some degree to both of you. I hope this doesn't discourage you from riding, but there is some risk involved.

Predictions are very difficult, especially about the future.

As far as "Dropping a Bike" yes to all kinds.

I was thinking more of the embarrassing kind,                         you stop at the stop sign,                                                  you turn the wheel to go around the corner,                           you start to apply throttle and then back off the throttle for whatever reason,                                                              and the next think you know you’re lying on the ground.

There are dozens of those kind of gremlins, and you learn most of them on your own, or, as your picking yourself up off the ground, you say, Oh Yaw I do remember so and so telling me about that!

The Dyna, has a very low center of gravity and is much more stable in parking lot maneuvers then some of the others.

Recommend you don't buy until you try a v strom. It has normal sitting position, room for long legs, good highway speed and comfort, and is not to big for the first bike. You might try some of the other bikes that are on off type. These companies that rent bikes use these machines with no problems. Kimk

Thanks........ ride smart everyday......
