| I am considering the purchase of a GPS. I would like to know if there is a consensus as to which is the best brand, best model, and best online store to purchase it (cheapest). Any help is appreciated.

I have a Garmin Zumo 550. It's not the cheapest by a long shot. I'm not even sure it's the best, but I like it.
It works well and does all I have ask. It will do more than that but I haven't stopped to figure out how to do other stuff.

Best brand/support by far is Garmin IMO. I have heard many stories of them fixing things that are out of warranty for free. I had them send me a new cradle on a Zumo 550 that was out of warranty. The Garmin's seem to have the best/most features too.
For a motorcycle look at the Zumo. They are not cheap but they are made for motorcycles. If you go to www.garmin.com you will find a section just for motorcycles. On a motorcycle you will want the voice prompts and I believe the "text to speech" is a must. Voice prompts will tell you to "turn right in 400 feet." The text to speech will say "turn right in 400 feet on to Michigan Avenue." Knowing the name of the street can help when there are more than one street close together.

| I've been very happy with my Garmin products so far and the level of service is far beyond what most would expect. My 60 Cx was out of warranty by just over a year (it was 2 years, 4 months old) and Garmin replaced it with a so-called refurbished unit; it looked brand new to me. As for which model, that'll depend on your needs and what is most important to you. I will never buy a GPS or any electronic device that has proprietary anything such as proprietary batteries and memory (Garmin 276C for example) or a unit where the user can't replace the battery. The 60Cx can run off three power sources; 8 to 36V via a cigarette lighter or hard wiring, two AA batteries (I use rechargeable NiMH), and off your USB. On a set of AAs, it'll run well over 10 hours on a charge. And the 60Cx takes cheap micro SD memory cards; a 2 Gb card will run you under $20 and hold all of the US and Canada in mapping. And you can update and install any maps you desire onto the card. I don't like units with pre-loaded maps. It does it all except voice commands; instead it uses selectable tones to indicate upcoming turns, etc. No, it doesn't have XM radio or satellite weather which require a subscription. Not bad for about $275. Where? Try Offroute, GPS City, TVNav.
