We are interested in planning a trip to Europe.. Alps etc., and using a tour company to rent a bike and use their tour guides. We are interested in any feedback from those of you that have been. We've seen websites for Beaches Tour company and Bosenberg. We know there are many more so any feedback from other riders would really be appreciated. Also, we ride a Goldwing now and we're considering renting one in Europe....feedback on what type of rides you rented would be great also.
Thanks,
Bill

I went with Edelweiss to go through the Alps. That was an excellent trip. That was back in 93. I rode the K1100LT on that trip.
Depending on what route you take some companies won't even offer the Goldwing as they are considered too big for the tight stuff. Most tours stop often enough that a Goldwing wouldn't be all that usefull. Most companies offer BMW's. You might like to try a RT or RS for a change.
Riding since 1966. Currently have 2 ST1100's, 1 ST1300 and 1 K1200LT

There was a good article about a tour in the latest BMW ON magazine. It was centered around a group from the Boston area that went to Germany and did the northern Italy routes. The tour company was named something like Muechen and Freitheit. If I find the mag, I will correct this posting with the exact name.
The "Z" MAN
BMW R1100R
Honda Shadow 1100 (4 sale)
The "Z" MAN - North Carolina
1995 BMW R1100R - MOA #115950
Olympia, Scorpion, Gerbings, & Alpinestars

I just received the new American Iron Mag.
There is a article on touring Europe. I'll try to read it tomorrow and report back.

Follow up on American Iron article.
There is no recommendations on tour companies. The article was more of a sales pitch of why and what to expect. I enjoyed the read and keep thinking, that when the last kid gets through collage maybe then my wife and I would love to do something like this.

I copied this/my response from another topic several months back responding to a similar question.
Good luck !!
Craigaz, I'm sure there are many tour outfits that may do a good job but I'll throw in my 2 cents. Two years ago my wife and I did the 'High Alpine Tour' through Edelweiss. Check their website.
The places we stayed in were 5 star every single night. Not 5 star 'glitz' like you may find in Manhattan but 5 star European charm. Gourmet meals. Great rooms. The food was phenomenal every night. Like dining at fine European restaurants every night.
Most of the places catered to the skiers but this tour was in mid-May so no problem with that.
Brand new or almost brand new BMWs.
You can ride a lot each day ( 300 miles ) or a little. ( less than 100 ) You can go out in your own or stay with the tour. As long as you can find your hotel that night, you're good to go. We went out on our own with two other couples on 2 different nights.
On this particular tour there were literally hundreds of hairpin turns. And I mean HAIRPIN !! If you don't like making those right hand turns, especially two up, think hard about taking this tour. I can't
overstate this. HAIRPIN !!!!
One downer......they claimed to have guides go with you whether you take the long ride or the short ride. The guides took the long ride EVERY day. 8 or 9 days, I don't remember. If you chose the short route, you were left to go out on your own. That's really something to think about also.
As you can imagine, the scenery was just ridiculous. Beautiful !!!
Try to stay away from the largest of their offering among bikes. We rode the next step down from BMW's luxo-tourer whatever the name is. A big cruiser type. Still too big for the Alps and those literally hundreds of mountain turns.

How independent do you want to be? Check out www.moto-charlie.com for a horse of a different color. I met Charlie in the Alps 20 years ago. We were both better looking then. but I can still vouch for him.
