I thought I'd celebrate our new forum by posting some pictures from last Fall's 24th annual Death Valley weekend. All photo credits go to Jeffery Stoutenborough, Architect.

Wasn't that OHG's wife, Michele Smith, in the first picture?

130 mph - hmm, I guess being on the East Pot Hole Coast that seems a little insane.
Great photos and I am envious - one day I'm gonna head west for some long distance rides.

How does one describe riding in California? It would take a book. I've riden in most of the lower 48 and California is unique. My wife is from Boston and I've spent a few years in Virginia so we can vouch for your potholes. I guess the operative word here is freedom.

There is little to no traffic enforcement on our favorite roads...even though some are state highways. The only law that governs your rate of travel is the law of physics, though we are careful to be respectful of other road users. Actually we don't spend much time at triple digits. Unless you have the neck muscles of an NFL lineman, you won't enjoy high speed cruising on an R1. We much prefer the twisties. There are many, many roads where it is not possible for us to exceed the posted 55 mph limit and bring it home in one piece. The local canyons begin 8 miles from our garage door.

But back to the picture. We were out of Death Valley and headed for breakfast. The road was straight with no driveways, intersections, houses, or even trees. Jeff was riding solo, so he obviously felt comfortable enough to take the picture of his instruments himself. Actually Janice was leading and Jeff was 25 mph off the pace...never come between my wife and her morning coffee.

WOW!

Those are some great pictures.  Brings back many memories of the days when I used to ride the deserts and mountains out there in CA and Nevada and Arizona.  California is a great state to ride - except for the LA basin of course!  One of my favorite routes was 295 from I-15 up through Lone Pine and further north.  I did alot of ghost town hunting when I lived out there and there are a few around Owens Lake and further east along the Panamint Range that borders Death Valley.  Ballarat sticks out in my mind.

RePete-thanks for rekindling some of my fondest memories of Death Valley. I've toured the park on countless occasions and once in late spring, after coming from the relatively cool Armagosa Valley and farting around in Badwater and the Devil's golf course, I had to pull in at the Furnace Creek Inn and jump in the fountain before I hit the pavement headfirst from heat exhaustion (Warning: fountain frolicking not recommended-management staff probably won’t appreciate hot sweaty bikers in their pretty water display) !

From the looks of your pics, you were enjoying the park the way it should be-lots of stops for sights coupled with hi-speed jaunts between them!

Wish I coulda tagged along….
