Nope SRG I have the right to sit there just as long as I want, and that would probably be just long enough to make sure you were awake and annoyed.
Be my guest. First, that would not be an accurate representation of loud pipes at all. Second, you would sit there and play things longer out of spite and hate as your first intention with proving a point just a biproduct. The guy with the loud pipes first intention is for his own enjoyment and added safety and annoyance as an unfortunate biproduct.
I have had bikes with loud pipes come up behind me and scare me half to death, and what did I do when I heard the noise? I turned my wheel toward the noise and almost hit them. Yeah loud pipes almost got them killed!
Do you also do that when firetrucks scare you? What about when someone with a loud horn honks at you? Do you almost hit them? If that is the case, then you really need new skills training because you are a dangerous motorist or consider giving up driving. If you get scared by an ambulance or fire truck and crash into them then that just makes the situation worse for people that need aid.
In the situation you talked about SRG with someone coming into your lane, you need the loud pipes IN FRONT OF YOU, not behind you in order for them to hear you. Once they do finally hear your annoying pipes it's to late.
If they are loud enough to annoy you while you sleep, then they are loud enough to be heard in the front, back and side. Otherwise, they aren't really loud pipes now are they? On top of that even with pipes pointed backwards, the noise jumps off the side of a car when you pass them and they hear you. Just ask someone that will be truthful. Take a random person to sample that you don't know.
Fred has ridden over a million miles and he has never needed loud pipes to get him out of a dangerous situation. Maybe YOU need more training on how to deal with road situations and not rely on you annoying loud pipes. That way you will have knowledge on how to ride your bike, that you must not have now because you "need" your annoying loud pipes, and you won't have to annoy the rest of the voting world that will take all our rights away from us because you insist on having annoying loud pipes.
Nobody said I needed loud pipes; they are just an additonal perk that helps. That's very similar to saying if Fred had the proper skills he wouldn't need bright cloths or safe riding gear or a helmet to get him out of a dangerous situation. He then wouldn't need the riding gear because he would have enough skills to avoid all dangerous sitatuions and that is when the gear benefits you the most.
Less of an exaggeration is the bright cloths; if you had the proper skills then you wouldn't need bright cloths would you? But they sure help don't they? It's not about having the skills; it's about the additional advantage.
Oh and he has an 2002 Sportster, with about 40,000 miles on it and it's in the shop for a new engine, the second one by the way.
Since you bring that up a few weeks ago I went down to springfield and they were actually trailering a newer goldwing from the motel I stayed at because it was broken at a lot less than 40K miles. I got to ride my sportster several hundred miles back home.

dragonmaster (9/24/2006) conspiracy theorists that believe NASA never made it to the moon. Listen NSA operative Dragondude. We all know the truth about that moon landing thing. It was shot on a sound stage out in area 51 as a propaganda ploy by the government to win the cold war. SRG Southpark is my favorite show on TV so you hit a soft spot. Museum of tolerance was a funny episode that in part showed the hypocrisy of many anti racism organizations. I don't really consider that the pro loud pipe movement raises up to that level. Safety is not a passive thing. A well placed horn blast does a lot more than the muted droning of loud pipes over the blasting car stereo. Where loud pipes are well heard is the middle of the night while sleeping with your windows open or while having lunch in an open air restaurant. The possible benefits to riders who are looking for the passive protection does not out weigh the negative public opinion. Every place I know of that has banned motorcycles has done so for the stated reason of loud pipes.

Believe it or not, I've never voiced my opinion on the benefits of loud pipes. Well your luck just ran out. I have no scientific study to support my prejudice, but I know how they affect me. When I hear loud pipes on any type of bike (including sport bikes), various un words come to mind...unwitting, uncaring, untrained, unskilled, uninformed, and unwashed.

| There was a study done and by MCN, but I guess you do NOT want to read what they had to say annoying about loud pipes. What I really find distasteful about annoying loud pipes is that they are getting my rights taken away from me. There are many places that have banned motorcycles because a few ruined if for all of us.

Which issue? Although, would you blame me being skeptical? They can't rate the same engine consistently. The biggest value of MCNews was David Hough, who unfortunately doesn't publish articles anymore.

| It was done when Fred was still there, he was telling me about it, but he couldn't remember what issue it was or even the year.

You might consider a set of Rinharts True Duel, on your Ultra. However be ready to have a re-map of your fuel injection. After Market exhaust systems are just coming out with the O2 sensor. Make sure you get the right set.

| Hi folks, just thought I'd put my two cents worth in. Loud pipes don't save lives, skilled riding does.
