I've made reference to this new lodge before and the great riding around the area. Now that I've stayed at the lodge I can add my recommendation to the accomadations. Try to get a room on the 3rd floor, which features spectacular scenery overlooking Blue Mtn Lake. The rooms with king bed features a 2-person jacuzzi tub and other ammenities expected in a nice room. The restaurant features high ceilings with huge rustic log beams and fantastic views. The indoor pool also overlooks the valley below. Same way with the exercise room.

A cycle hangout just a few miles from the lodge is Shirleys Outback located a few miles north of the visitor center on Hwy 309.

Thanks OHG. I like getting recomendations on where to stay. How was the pricing? I am sure that with a in room jacuzzi they are not real cheap. $150 a night is reasonable but this last summer prices were very high all over. I saw rooms like this going for $200 to $300 a night out east.

Maybe we could pin a thread for places to stay. At any rate here is one of our favorites in the California sierras It's on Highway 49 in Sierra City. The property has been in the same family since before the gold rush and has a 130 year old barn. The facilities are nice and they are clean but not plush...no hot tubs here. Rooms on the river are about $100. The staff is great and the drinking water is the best.. www.herringtonssierrapines.com

Good idea RePete. Consider this the offical place to post the good motels. Tell us a little about the place and please include an idea of the rates. Also for those so inclined the GPS coordinates will get you extra credit points.

The website lists the pricing guide. Its very reasonable but I didn't mention price because there are so many variables such as when you go; foliage season is higher, Sunday thru Thursday is cheaper than weekends etc. We were there on a Friday night and the rate was $159 for a top floor room, balcony, king-size bed and two-person jacuzzi that you could relax in and look out over the balconey into the valley and it was situated so you have privacy while doing so.
As I get more time I'll try to post more from this area. A quick search will bring-up several more of my favs such as Queen Wilhemena Lodge in the Winding Stair Mtns of Arkansas and Big Cedar in southern Missouri.

| I use to go the other way really. On the road is about distance and I went for mom and pop places where you can park the bike right outside the door. Personal best: Ranch Motel in Salina, Utah, $32. Then I started to realize you can't be too sure of these places and I've got an expensive bike out there. You don't sleep quite as soundly. The next day I got stuck coming into SF and wound up at a Holiday Inn right at the mouth of the Pasific Coast Highway going north. I ususally avoid those types of places like the plague but it was late and I was tired so I stopped. Guess what, I slept alot better which made the trip up the coast a whole lot more relaxed. I find if you go into the big, fancy inn at the state park at say 8-9P sometimes they still have rooms from last minute cancelations and/or no shows. My favorite thus far was the game lodge at Custer State Park, ND. You weave thru the hills and buffalo until you come to this valley were and honest to god 1920 lodge sits. A single costs something like $95 in season and you can sit on the great big front porch in a rocking chair smoking a cigar and drinking beer as you watch the sun set on the hills. Heaven.

I have reservations at the MT. Magazine lodge for Dec. 16th. The winter rate, Dec-Feb. for the 1 bedroom 2 person room is $89 there are four season rates the summer being the higest at $129for the same room. It is a beautiful place as OHG says. Had lunch there a couple of weeks ago. As he says it is great riding in Arkansas
