I noticed a finisher on a new Kawasaki Concours 14 also. That and the Victory Vision rider surprised me since they are relatively untested for an event like that. I guess someone has to be first on a new model.
I also noticed how many couples completed the event. My wife likes to ride with me but a ride like that two up just isn't going to happen. Ever!

I'm envious of the endurance of those folks. Even the ones who don't finish for one reason or another. I'm hoping to do my first SS1000 when it cools off a little this fall. I'm not concerned about my bike making it. In fact, I'm confident I could jump on it as it sits and ride across country. I'm mostly concerned about me falling asleep. I won't know till I try. My longest ride in a single day so far was a little over 700 miles.

Good point, except with the HD it was in the shop almost weekly. It vibrated so badly that parts literally fell off of it. Other parts that remained broke easily, the handling was terrible, and it cost a fortune. So in my book, it is a company I will avoid. I MUST ADD THAT IS MY OPINION FROM MY EXPERIENCE AND NOT INTENDED TO INFLUENCE OTHERS IN THEIR PURCHASE.

In order to avoid claims of brand bashing and offending the sensitive types maybe we should take a page from the book and movie, The Village. From now on we should refer to brands as:

TMCWNWSNM - meaning The Motorcycle Company Whose Name We Shall Not Mention.

There are several models of BMW Motorcycles I find appealing - here's why I am not considering purchasing one:

1.) Nearest dealer 80 miles away - dealers for everything else (even many Euro brands) are local

2.) Parts and service $$$$$

3.) Perceived lack of reliability with newer models

4.) Price is not a reason, BMWs seem to be comparably priced to other similar bikes - and used K1200LTs are bargains (initial price) compared to used GL1800s - from what I've looked at.

From what I am reading if you changed the oil in the "maintenance free" final drive at around 600 miles and at reasonable periods after that you are less likely to have the bearings fail.
