bmw final drive failure -I bought a 2002 r1150rt Feb.07 with 1.5k miles on her.I have changed the oil,oil filter, transmission fluid and rear end fluid every 4-5 k miles with full syn Mobil 1 . At 32k miles
I have found metal on the magnetic lower plug and in the oil of the rear end drive-I have been told that the rear end is getting ready to fail. I have never found any metal in the rear fluid before. I have changed the rear fluid every time that I have changed the engine oil and filter! Who can match that ?? The first full year that I owned her I put 24k miles on her and never found any metal in the GL-5,75-90 full syn Mobil 1 rear end fluid. Now I am going to have the rear end rebuilt and the nearest dealer is two hundred miles away! Police coils failed at 24k- $350.00. 2000 Honda VFR 800 FI same amount of miles
not one failed part! You get what you pay for???

Sure seems to be a lot of unhappy people with BMW. A Bavarian Money Waster if you will. I have heard folks complain about Wings that did not handle, had over heating problems and frames that fail. HD always as something that was not designed well or has problems. Out of round belt pulleys leading to early failure comes to mind. Want to talk about Ducati, lets not. Parts for Japanese bikes cost more than BMW parts. I keep reflecting on the 85 K100RS with 500,000 miles on it, no major engine work and I heard it was up to 700,000 miles though I did not see that. It did look like crap since it hit a deer.
My little word salad above is meant to point out all bikes have some problem or another. I have been following the FD issue in the MOA Mag. It is my understanding 07 fixed that but knowing BMW they over engineered it, like everything else they do, so something else will have a problem.
If you cannot afford a BMW I can understand that, they are expensive. Yes I have had problems with some of the Beemers I have had but I also had wooden brakes on my 185 mph Busa, paint that came off when I attempted to wash and wax my Honda and Harleys that just stopped working.
Our sport is based on passion, a love of the sport, but nothing is perfect.
