Canadian prices are truly ridiculous.

The fact is, accommodation rates in North America (Canada and the US) are ridiculous considering how low their operating costs are.

On my 2003 Eastern Canada tour, I was amazed what establishments charge for such hole-in-the-walls.

Worse than motels & hotels are B&Bs, more often than not. But I did find very reasonable B&Bs in Newfoundland and Labrador. On the Cabot Trail (Nova Scotia), the motel I stayed at in Cheticamp wanted $119 a night...what are they smoking!

This past June, my accommodation rates ran me between €22 (US$34) with a full breakfast to €42 (US$64) with a FULL breakfast and full course dinner...and this on a continent with very high operating costs.

Little wonder that I don't tour here a lot.

All the best,
Alex
