Well I should have known better. I should have been a little less aggressive. I should have been a little more attentive.
On a two lone 55 mph country road the car in front of me which had been going somewhat slow... and annoying the heck out of me for some reason... put on their right turn signal. I actually wondered why they would be turning into the cemetery as it is a very old one and does not get a lot of visitors (though miraculously it is kept immaculate by someone who deserves more recognition.) I start a pass on the left in a passing zone. Their right turn signal on but... can you see it coming... decides to turn left. A quick on the gas and left move kept me from a side swipe.
It was a dumb rookie mistake I made. On the other hand why do people have to be so darn stupid?

| Glade it was just a close call. Most of my close calls have been, when I was being impatient and the other person was doing something dumb or illegal.

Mistakes made by the motorcyclist according to the dumb-blonde rookie reporter that only knows motorcycles as "murdercycles":
--Motorcyclist was traveling at a hi rate of speed.
--Motorcyclist knew the driver was turning, regardless of which way the motorcyclist made an aggressive move knowing full well ahead of time of the drivers intent to turn.
--Motorcyclist should have anticipated the driver was NOT turning into the cemetery because the driver appeared to still be alive.
--Motorcyclist accelerated out of the way rather than holding still so driver could run them over.
--IF there had been a crash the full-face helmet found at the scene of the crash could NOT have been this motorcyclist's because everyone knows each news story of a crash must end with, whoever was at fault, by saying the "MOTORCYCLIST WAS NOT WEARING A HELMET."
--And then finally if all murdercycles were outlawed this would have never been an issue because they would have not been there. We could only hope it would have been an 18-wheeler doing mach-II with their hair on fire, all jacked up on Mountain Dew, Red-Bull, and Smokin-Coke.

You can tell the non-bikers when they remark that 'close' only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. I had two left-turn-in-front-of- me's during the morning commutes this week. I figure its 'close enough' if I have to apply a brake. Both times were pre-dawn, with no following traffic to camo my 80w headlight. The scary part was wondering if the second guy in the left turn lane was going to follow the first idiot out there? Flashing the 100w high beam kept the second guy still. I dont even swear anymore. Its a quick, "Thank you, Jeebus." And ride on ...
nobody rides half as well as they know how.

Glad to still have you with us Torque. I have had several of those types of close calls living in Chicago. Usually riders like that will give you indicators that they will do something stupid. You were seeing them.
Either way, glad you weren't hurt and you can learn from this experience without sipping meals through a tube.

| I second the motion that we are glad you are still with us Torque and that you are not the one turning into the cemetary. ..I had a very close call with a wild turkey today...it would be just my luck that the Press of Atlantic City would say "Woman on scooter hits wild turkey, PETA activists storm hospital demanding justice as turkey was killed by rider's bright pink helmet".
