The Sidi Doha boot review in MC News this month got me thinking I really need to buy riding boots. I liked the review and have started to look at other reviews. What is most important to me is:
comfort in very hot weather
non slip soles in case of oil when I put my foot down
top of toe padding to save my foot from the shifting peg
NO METAL on the outside of the boot
Any recommendations?

| I bought the Red Wing 9" Lace-ups with the zipper on the outside thinking that once I had them laced properly, I could just use the zipper to take them off and put them on. WRONG! Next time I'll get the straight lace ups. Vibram soles, steel toe caps, black leather. Plainer than a Harley with no chrome. The most comfortable things I've ever had on my feet for walking or riding except OHG's wife, Michelle Smith.

Thanks for the response DragonMaster -
I just wanted to clarify when I stated, no metal, I meant other than the grommets that hold the laces. I had a friend that had a manufacturer's metal logo on the outside of his boots. He had an accident (a lady broad sided him) and caused the metal logo to wedge itself into his heel. It took three surgeries to correct the damage it had done and this was long after the broken bones had the casts removed.
It was on of those stories that just stuck with me.
I am looking at the Icon, TourMaster, and the Sidi boot line up. Seems the Sidi is coming out on top.

| Drummer; I like the Alpine Stars. Even though I do not have to shift, they have the shift protector on the top for those that do. They have a wick away lining that keep my feet pretty comfortable. My foot doctor who rides recommended them to me since I have diabetes. I tried on a good number of boots and even had regular hiking boots from LL Bean that were really comfortable, but the Alpine Stars even beat them. I really wanted something I could walk in when we were out somewhere and they fit the bill perfectly. Good luck with whatever you choose. NJScooterGal

| I guess I should say a word or two about Alpinestars and my favorite boot the Supertech. The Supertech is the best street boot my wife and I have ever worn. It is chocked full of protective features and is very comfortable to ride in. It allows all the foot movements one needs in riding, but prevents any excessive rotation or flexing that would cause injury. I lost the front end a few years ago in some gravel I failed to see. It was a curve to the right and my right ankle and lower leg were pinned under the bike. Together we sled across two lanes and into the ditch on the other side. I was still trapped under the bike and needed help to get it off my leg enough for me to slide out from under. My ankle should have been broken and it would have been in any other boot I've ever owned. Instead there was no damage at all to my ankle or foot or lower leg. I wasn't even bruised and didn't so much as limp. The boot was scuffed all the way to the top, but all it needed was a new toe slider. Don't try this in a lesser boot. The Supertechs are really comfortable too. They are vented for summer, though the only air they are likely to see on our bikes is hot air from the radiator. They have an outer shell and a separate inner bootie. The bootie carries all the hinges and motion limiters, but it is made of foam. Your foot never had it so good. The bootie can be removed and washed out if things are becoming a bit organic in there. We place a plastic bag over the bootie if it looks like rain. The boots will bob like a cork in a sink full of water with the bags in place. The people at Alpinestars are great. We recently replaced the heel plate sliders on both pair. After five years of trips to the salad bar, they were worn on the bottom edge. We went to two different dealers and even talked to the distributor, but all we learned was the sliders costs $35 for two sets and were no longer available. Finally I called Alpinestars directly. They had the sliders and shipped them the same day, for free! We didn't even pay the shipping cost! You won't beat that service. Alpinestars makes lots of good things. We can vouch for more than just the boots. But that is a different topic.

I'm glad to see this topic being discussed since my wife and I have been having trouble finding a motorcycle boot that will fit her. She has a small, but wide, foot and has been riding in a pair of Hi-Tec hiking boots for years, as this is the only boot she has found in a size 4 that is wide enough to fit her comfortably. We have visited several motorcycle "Mega-Dealers" in hopes of finding a boot from their larger selection but have had no luck so far. Does anyone out there know of a motorcycle specific boot that will offer her the protection and comfort she needs and available in a women's size 4 "Wide"? We are hoping to find a boot that will work from "off the shelf" since the option of a custom made boot is beyond our budget.
