No flames from me. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. On the Autobahn people routinely do speeds in the triple digits safely with less accidents than here. I think it comes down to training, skills, and strict enforcement of the German traffic laws concerning distracted driving. I enjoy some spirited riding every once in a while and feel I can do it relatively safely.
I have seen people beat speeding ticket cases but it is rare. My boss got out of one recently so it can be done. Hope you get a good liberal judge.

OTH. I have seen it written and have been told by persons better than me, "Life begins at 120mph." YMMV
nobody rides half as well as they know how.

| Modette - sorry to hear about your ticket, but it is a blessing - it could have been much worse. A few years ago in North Carolina, if a driver was caught going better than 15 miles over the spped limit, it was an automatic loss of license. Didn't matter if it was 71 in a 55 zone or 51 in a 35 - it was gone. (I am not sure if the law is still in place or not - think I better check on that ....) So I checked on it and found the following site. http://www.mit.edu/~jfc/laws.html This site has info about speeding in every state in America. Yup, still 30 day loss of license and then the $ pain begins.

| I have never done a wheelie neither has the brother in-law...LOL We are not that type of rider, although I do admit to riding fast I been on here long enough Torq probably recalls my early day postings of doing 100mph+. That video was 5-10mph over the posted limit, if you been to CO then you will know most speed limits here are set way too low. That road I sit on and take photos, it goes down to a posted 30mph down the road, alot of backroads are like that. In othe rplaces it be 45-50mph zone...but in this state (and PA from what I have seen) the limits are way to low. They are a way for the state to make money is all, it has nothing to do with safety. Some people say, be glad they did not haul you to jail...why what would county lockup teach me??? Be a waste of my time and their time. Locking someone up over speeding is just a joke. As far as the Careless charge that is normal charge in CO. It is 4 points and the fine is $10-$300. When an officer hands you a ticket with two charges it is so that they know one will be dropped (Careless) and the other reduced. Actually there are many holes in the officer and her story. First off there is no way she got both of us on Radar at the SAME speed the Lawyer I talked to loved that she wrote a ticket for the same thing to two riders. Second we were parked a few minutes before she got up the mountain, so was it really us or those two other bikers that flew by!!!! *shrug* I have no idea. Second she tried to claim weaving, which she gave up on this claim after I corrected her. All passes we made of vehicles going in the same direction which were on dotted yellow lines, we even slowed down to wait and make the passes. Not careless here and we were thinking of the OTHER drivers going the same way as us. Third the lawyer said it is common for the Cop to make up a speed based on what OTHER traffic has done in that area. We will know more once we have her report that she had to write up at the end of the day. Fourth if we were that big of a danager why let us go. That right there my friend shows she believed we were not a danager to others, or really ourselves as she let us ride the 70-100 miles home. If I am a danager arrest my butt, I have no problem with that. The lawyer also liked that she said and I quote "I want you to pay a BUTT LOAD of money" repeated maybe 4-5 times to us. Like the lawyer said this helps to show she already knew that she was just wanting us to pay money (not make an arrest). Again if we were a danger take us to jail. Lawyer will cost $1,250 each. I firgure with fines and he feels that one charge will be dropped, and the other probably reduced and we will just be out money. Note we both have clean records, thus out of the 10K mile sI rode this summer alone, plus another 5K in the car and this is my only ticket as the lawyer pointed out will show I'm not out there doing this daily otherwise I be caught by now. Plus we are going to sign up for a hands on advanced driving course (Course date August 30th $160 for 8 hours)...this is a Traffic Court course so by us doing this it shows the Judge we knew what we did was wrong, but we took the first step to show the court without being ordered to take the course. Am I worried, no. Am I pissed at myself, yes. Because I know how to play and on such roads the number one rule you see a vehicle int he distance you SLOW down. I broke my rule, and my other rule is to never maintain such speeds for extended time, again I broke my rule. I do not have to worry about my rule on traffic because it was light, no cross streets, no pull offs...this is int he middle of nowhere. Heck it is even hard to get a lawyer for out there as there are NO real towns or cities. Me posting this is mainly to show even with a butt load of miles and growing age of a rider we are all still Human and make mistakes. Should one loose their license, I do not believe so for such simple matters. For most people a loss of license just means now they are on the road uninsured. Cops pulls them over now they do a little easy county jail and pay fines and repeat the cycle again. I'm lucky if it really comes down to loose of license I have a backup plan. Glad I hold an Austrian drivers license, I just take a little flight go get an International one...change the cars to the wifes name and what do you know I'm just visiting here officer...I own two homes and my home is in Austria :-) I'm lucky I can win this game if I so decide...LOL I do not think it will come down to that. As for riding, I'm not depressed. I been down this path although not such high speeds when I first got the FZ1. Ticket, flat tire, and snow storm had me wanting to sell the FZ1 a month after getting it. This is just a bump in the road... Now my brother in-law ont he other hand, he is looking to sell his Triumph and get a KLR650 or an Aprilia SR50 moped. I'm not at that point. The world will still go on, and I will still ride (now I will remember not to break my rules).

Modette, Part of me agrees with you and am sorry you were popped. Another side to me does not appreciate your "tude" to the whole thing. OWG wrote his poem and within it there is a lot of wisdom.
Do the humble thing, pay your fines and learn from it. The cop was doing her job and you were breaking the law. We all know the risks when we play hard, be they death or a ticket. Just flow with it and be thankful if you walk.

motojavaphil (8/2/2008) Modette, Part of me agrees with you and am sorry you were popped. Another side to me does not appreciate your "tude" to the whole thing. We all know the risks when we play hard, be they death or a ticket. Just flow with it and be thankful if you walk. Phil You are right we will be paying a fine, I never said we would not be. That is why I'm hiring a damn good lawyer. To advise someone just to PAY is pretty f'ed up. Sorry to say you should never just PAY the fine. Do you know if I just paid the fine it probably be $1,000 loss of license...that is a pretty harsh fine for speeding in the high plains area (which means desert for those that do not know what "high plains" is). To say she was "doing her job" I never made her take that job nor did I want to hear her whine how she has to deal with death notifications at night and on her time off. She tookt he job, it is a free country if she hates her job she can get a differant one. So please the old "they are doing their job" argument does not fly with me.
