Unless I'm missing the boat here, somewhere (not the first nor will it be the last time)....OWG....used to be OHG.  And what might the "H" stand for?   My...how quickly we turn........

If I'm wrong....apologies.  However....wearing a helmet....I might venture to say that the use of one is entirely dependant on the States' law.  Traveling cross country, in the "helmet optional" states, I've observed riders of ALL bikes....WINGS INCLUDED...some riding without helmets. My next door state, Pennsylvania, has recently become a "helmet optional" state.

Some do...some don't. I'd say the majority do....and surprisingly, in Philadelphia itself...a high density urban (LOTS of traffic close together, etc., etc.,) the 2 H-D riders I saw HAD helmets...and 3 rocket-ship sporty guys didn't.

I guess, that according to OWG...these 3 must be old H-D riders...still clinging to the "dress code".

Once again, I state: Those that refuse to wear a helmet have nothing to protect.  But it (wearing one) SHOULD be voluntary.

Hello Jimbo.  Just cause I changed bikes doesn't mean I've "turned."  I'd have 50 or 60 bikes of varying styles, brands, vintages and names if I could afford it.  But these days I usually keep one nice bike and just roll with that.  So if thats what you meant by "turn" then I guess I did.  I'm not one of those that blindly swears allegiance to some brand and gets tattos of such on this old bod.  And as always there are good and bad with all brands.  Or if you meant "turn" regarding helmet usage I've always been for choice but always wore a helmet so no "turn" in that regard.  So if I had the time or inclination to wonder what you meant by "turn" I would do so but really could care less.  I do think it a shame when riders turn a minor mishap into death because they didn't wear a helmet because they were concerned about what other riders might think.  I've seen it countless times.  I've also grown quite weary with emotional arguments by those that want to justify not wearing a helmet.  To me that is beyond stupid and just blowing smoke at everyone.  Just be honest and say "I don't support helmet laws because I don't want to wear one."  I can handle honesty easier than stupidity even if I don't agree with their position.  But the whole helmet issue anymore is just a waste of my time, I've heard it all before.  I don't see the NFL or Bubba-racing (NASCAR) rescinding helmet rules.  And if guys want to not wear a helmet and dash their brains out in accidents I'm not too fond of my insurance premiums going up because of it.  Or hospitals raising rates to pay for them because they don't have health insurance and we still live in a society charitable enough to not turn people away who have sustained life-threatening injuries.

In a way the helmet issue is like the foreclosue problem in the U.S.  We have a one group that plans, prepares and acts responsibly by saving, not over-extending themselves and paying off their mortgages.  Then we have another group that does not act responsibly and then when they encounter trouble they expect those that acted responsibly to bail them out.  To put in on simpler terms you go outside without an umbrella and when it starts raining you want those with umbrellas to give you one.  Its like "Whats yours is mine and whats mine is mine."

We have been over run with deer in my neck of the woods. It's not the big deer that are a problem (we can see those). It's the numerous fawn that are the problem. One biker friend slid to his driveway because a fawn ran into him (not the other way around). Another HD friend had a fawn also run into him, bent in his highway bar, and ended up spraining his ankle (and he was in a charity ride with many riders). The babies follow the mothers without looking.

Just yesterday, a mother ran across the road in front of me. I stopped in the middle of the road just as one baby ran out in front of me. Then another one. Then another one. She had triplets!

Crazy!

I try to avoid riding at dusk because that is when most of our creatures are out. The "Possums" in Georgia get large. I would like to avoid those as much as possible because they are nasty!
