Hey Zarcero - how do you like that CB250 as far as power and ability to ride the Interstates?...

I love the CB250. I have taken it on Interstates, like I-10 and I-45 and up to 75mph. The bike will top out at around 85 mph. However, I generally avoid Interstates and only get on them when I have to, like to cross a body of water. Generally I will ride on US highways (think Route 66 type roads), State and county roads. You can go everywhere in the US like this, and it makes for a better journey because you see more. I have no problems riding along at 65 mph. According to IronButt, the 1,000 mile ride can be made under 65 mph in about 18 hours.

Riding a 250cc displacement bike over long distances takes stamina, much more than riding on a liter bike. Having a windshield however does help and you kinda have to be in athletic shape. Without a windshield, you will be buffeting more at higher speeds than the heavier bikes.

Whatever happened to the Universal Japanese Motorcycle (UJM).

The North American market got so wrapped up in racer wannabee bikes, cruisers and Winnebagos on two wheels, that I switched to a Universal German Motorcycle (UGM) way back in the early 90s and I haven't looked back.

Plus the North American market is slow to figure things out. The Europeans have been on motorcycles like the V-Strom ages before with motorcycles like the Honda Trans Alp and Africa Twin (which we never got) as well as others like the Yamaha TDM. We are now just getting the Honda Varadero....what...some 5 years? after its been in Europe.

All the best,
Alex
